The Nerone black rice is grown only in certain parts of Italy’s Po valley and is prized for its fragrant aroma and texture.
Black rice is a great source of iron and vitamin E. Similar to brown rice, the grain has a similar amount of fibre, and has a mild, nutty taste. Black foods are said to hold more antioxidants that light-coloured foods due to their high pigment content. Despite its colour, black rice can be perfect for porridge and desserts. In its raw state, it is a black colour, which turns a deep purple when cooked.
