Stoneground flour is seeing something of a resurgence in popularity as people look towards better quality ingredients and local produce.
Perched on the banks of the river Iver Stotfold watermill is thought to have had a mill on it’s current5 site for over 1000 years though nobody is sure of the exact date. It is mentioned in the Domesday book of 1806 as one of four mills in Stotfold. The Mill closed in 1966, despite numerous attempts to modernise the workings it could not compete with newer industrial milling processes. At this point it was only milling grains for animal feeds. In 2006 a charity was set up to restore the mill and it’s adjoining grounds. Stotfold Mill Nature Reserve officially opened in 2011 and a team of well over 100 volunteers work to keep the Mill turning.
